That depends on whom you ask! Companies specialising in Laser will tell you that laser is better. The same is true for companies using IPL. The fact is that both Laser and IPL can produce great results in permanent hair reduction.

Hairfree treatments are a simple two-step process. First, we gently cleanse the area to be treated. Then the area is scanned with the treatment light. Treatments can last from a few minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the area being treated.

Light is used to gently remove unwanted hair for long-lasting results. The light targets the pigment in the hair follicle in its active cycle and in a fraction of a second, all of the treated growing hair follicles are destroyed so that no more hairs are produced. The result is smoother, younger-looking skin. Because not every hair follicle will be in the active cycle at the time of your treatment, you’ll need more than one treatment to ensure optimum results.

Because Laser and IPL treat more than one hair at a time, larger areas such as the back, shoulders, arms, legs, and face can be treated quickly. However, treatment times can vary from person to person and Hairfree promises never to rush your treatment because we want you to get the best possible result every time.

Electrolysis uses a needle inserted into each hair follicle, one at a time. An electric current passes through follicle to retard hair growth. Hairfree uses light to treat an area of hair and within microseconds, as the light passes across the skin, all the growing hairs in that area are destroyed.

Because hair growth is not synchronised – with different hairs at different stages in the growth cycle, we recommend a minimum program of 6 to 8 treatments. More or less treatments may be required depending on your skin type, hair type, ethnicity, hormone levels and medication. At your free consultation, your therapist will tailor a treatment program to suit your individual needs. We won’t make any false promises: if our treatments are not right for you, we’ll tell you.

As Laser or IPL treatments are only effective on actively growing hair follicles, treatments should be spaced apart so that ‘dormant’ hair follicles in the area have time to begin growing. If the treatment is given too soon or too late, that particular treatment session will not be as effective. Although there is no “right” answer, 4 to 8 weeks is the recommended interval for most people and is dependent on the area being treated.

Whether your unwanted hair is on your face or your arms or legs or anywhere else on your body, Hairfree can remove it. Our most popular treatment areas are:

Brunettes and dark-haired people with light to medium toned skin often have the greatest success. However, developments in technology now mean that those with darker skins can also get great results. Natural blondes with fair skin are not suitable for Hairfree treatments.

Do:

• Shave the area to be treated (unless you are having your lip treated)
• Leave an area about 4cm x 4 cm unshaved so your therapist can assess your hair thickness and colour

Don’t:

• Wax, pluck or bleach your hair for 4 weeks before your first treatment
• Tan or be exposed to sun before your treatment – no treatments will be performed on sunburnt skin

You can go back to work or play after your treatment but keep out of the sun for 4 weeks before and 4 weeks after your treatment.
